Aromatherapy has been around in some form for thousands of years! There is more to it than simply using essential oils; aromatherapy can be quite complex, involving carrier oils, absolutes, herbal distillates and vaporizer oils. An important element of aromatherapy is synergy, which is the combination of numerous essential oils that can actually create a more powerful effect than the oils would have on their own. This is why blending essential oils is such an important area of study for alternative healers, since the range of possibilities is almost endless.
Some benefits of Aromatherapy:
– reduce anxiety
– ease depression
– boost energy levels
– strengthen the immune system
– reduce pain
Stress Relief: Perhaps the most widespread and popular use of aromatherapy is for stress relief. The aromatic compounds from many different essential oils are known as relaxants and can help to soothe your mind and eliminate anxiety. Some of the best essential oils for stress relief are lemon oil, lavender, bergamot, peppermint, vetiver, and ylang ylang essential oils. Certain studies have also shown that lemon oil can improve mood and reduce outbursts of anger.
Antidepressant Capacity: Second to stress relief, aromatherapy is very commonly used to eliminate feelings of depression. In terms of the best essential oils to use for reducing depression, most specialists suggest peppermint, chamomile, lavender, and jasmine.
Memory: One of the most frightening and widespread diseases affecting older people is memory loss and the inability to form short term memories. Aromatherapy has often been turned to as an alternative or supplemental treatment for dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have also shown the efficacy of aromatherapy on younger patients in terms of boosting their memory capacity for a certain amount of time after the treatment. This refreshing burst for the brain can be useful in all walks of life, no matter what age you are! Sage oil is the most commonly recommended oil for this sort of memory-enhancing effect.
Boost Energy Levels: We can all use more energy to get through the hectic daily tasks of modern life. While diet and exercise can also help, many people turn to aromatherapy to put a bit more pep in their step. Many essential oils are known to increase circulation, raise energy levels, and generally stimulate the body and mind, without the dangerous side effects of other stimulating substances. The best essential oils for giving yourself an energy boost include black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, jasmine, tea tree, rosemary, and sage.
Immune System: It is far better to prevent than treat, as most medical professionals say, and aromatherapy can give you a serious boost to your immune system if used properly. The anti-microbial effects, as well as the anti-fungal and antibacterial effects can protect you from any number of illnesses and infections that could damage your system. This area of aromatherapy is very popular and widely studied. Some of the most effective essential oils that boost your immune system include oregano, frankincense, lemon, peppermint, cinnamon, and eucalyptus essential oils.
Pain Relief: Aromatherapy can relieve dozens of different types of pain, why not take advantage of it? Pain relief is one of the most useful applications of aromatherapy. The top essential oils, both for professional and personal use, include lavender, chamomile, clary sage, juniper, eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint essential oils.
Dry brushing helps unclog pores and excrete toxins that get trapped beneath the skin.
Did you know that our skin is considered an organ? And as such, it’s the largest organ in the human body. Since one-third of the body’s toxins are excreted through the skin, this super-large organ needs daily attention.
Dry Brushing Benefits:
1. Exfoliates Dead Skin
2. Stimulates the Lymphatic System
3. Reduces Cellulite (Perfect for Summer)
4. Unclogs Pores
5. Offers Stress Relief

Poper skincare is important; applying a drop versus a dollop can make all the difference in the effectiveness of your daily routine. Apply too little product and you can limit its effect. Apply too much and you can irritate and overload the skin, preventing it from absorbing a product’s full benefits. Éminence products are highly concentrated, which means you don’t need to apply as much to experience their full effects – here is our guide to the application amounts that are just right.
Cleansers: 1/2 a pump or squeeze
Over time, using too much cleanser can compromise the skin’s ability to produce its own hydrating and balancing oils, leaving it feeling dry and irritated. On the other hand, using too little product can prevent a thorough cleanse, leaving behind dirt and debris that can clog and congest pores. We recommend using half a pump or squeeze of your favorite gel or cream cleanser to wash away buildup and keep the skin’s moisture barrier intact.
Exfoliants: 1-2 full shakes
Exfoliating is a key step towards achieving a bright and radiant complexion – but using more product won’t necessarily generate better results. To gently slough off dead skin cells and smooth your skin’s appearance, we recommend dispensing 1-2 shakes of the best-selling Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant into the palm of your hand, adding a few drops of water, and gently massaging the paste into your skin before rinsing thoroughly.
Masques: Quarter-sized amount (add 2-3 drops of water to masques with a jelly-like consistency)
We love to mask with Eminence – and not just because the treatments look (and smell) good enough to eat! Masking is one of the most important steps you can take to see a change in your skin – these treatments contain concentrated amounts of vitamins and nutrient-rich ingredients that target a variety of skin types and concerns. So, before you slather an inch-thick layer of your favorite mask onto your skin, remember that an quarter-sized amount is just enough to deliver the results you’re after.
Toners: 3 spritzes
Toners, toniques and hydrating mists balance the skin’s pH after cleansing and prep it for better absorption of ingredients in the next steps of your routine. To leave skin glowing and refreshed, we suggest applying 3 spritzes of toner directly onto the skin, or moistening a cotton pad and gently sweeping it across your face and neck.
Oils, Serums and Concentrates: 3 drops (oils & serums) or 1-2 pumps (concentrates)
When it comes to oils, serums and concentrates, a little goes a long way. These treatments penetrate the skin, infusing it with vitamins, antioxidants and plant extracts, and are designed to target specific concerns like uneven skin tone, problem skin and the signs of aging. Because oils, serums and concentrates are so highly concentrated, you only need a small amount to experience their full benefits. We recommend pressing 3 drops of oil or serum into clean skin. For concentrates like the Bamboo Firming Fluid, even less is more – apply just 1-2 pumps for optimal results.
Moisturizers: Quarter-sized amount
We’re all guilty of being a bit heavy handed when it comes to applying moisturizers – but more isn’t necessarily better. Applying too much can actually limit the skin’s ability to properly absorb ingredients, causing an accumulation of product on its surface. The result: congested pores and lackluster skin. To get the most out of your moisturizer, apply an almond-sized amount to your face, neck and décolletage in gentle, upward sweeping motions.
Eye Creams: 1 full pump is enough for both eye areas
When applying eye creams, a pea-sized amount is plenty. Packed with vitamins and nutrient-rich ingredients, these formulas treat, protect and soothe the skin around the eyes, reducing the appearance of fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. The eye area should be treated with care – we recommend dispensing one pump of eye cream and gently patting it into the skin around both eyes to avoid pulling and stretching this
